Twelve years of planning and construction culminated Saturday in the official opening of Almonte’s Metcalfe Geoheritage Park in its permanent home at the bottom of Bay Hill. Nearly a hundred people turned out for Saturday’s opening. Speakers included Dr. Al Donaldson, Dr. Greg Brooks, Dr. Bill Pearson, Lesley Hymers, Scott Newton and Mayor Shaun McLaughlin. • Promote a greater public understanding of geoscience;
• Support the individuals who study geoscience; and
• Support the practice of professional geoscience.
Founded by Dr. Bill Pearson, P.Geo, APGO’s first president, the Ed Fdn will be launching a Scholarship and Bursary program in early 2016. Scholarships will support post-secondary students in the 3rd year of a geoscience study program at an Ontario university.
