Who We Are
The APGO Education Foundation (APGOEF) is a registered charitable organization (#84604 5052 RR0001) under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.
APGO stands for the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario which is the legal name of the self regulatory organization governing the practice of professional geoscience in Ontario. APGO was established by passage of the Professional Geoscientists Act, 2000 in June 2000. Dr. Pearson, Founder and Chair of APGOEF, was the first president of APGO and led the Transitional Council that established APGO as a full fledged professional association by 2003. In June 2019, APGO adopted the business name Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO). PGO is an important partner and supporter of APGOEF but APGOEF is governed by a completely separate independent board.
APGOEF provides the public with free, accessible, and accurate information on all aspects of geoscience through our innovative website GeoscienceINFO.com. Our GeoHikes take visitors on hikes in many locations in Ontario to learn about the fascinating geological and natural environments. Urban GeoWalks give insight on the geological significance of building stones in major urban areas including Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton and Sudbury. Our GeoRoutes take you around Ontario to many important geological locations while our GeoVideos explain important geological processes. For up-to-date articles on a wide range of topics in geoscience, check out our GeoBlog – Beneath Your Feet: A Geoscience Blog. We regularly attend many public events across the province.
